1 dead, 1 injured in wreck of motorcycles, truck on U.S. 2

SNOHOMISH – One motorcyclist is dead and another motorcyclist was taken to Providence Everett Medical Center's Colby campus following an accident involving a fuel tanker truck Saturday afternoon at U.S. 2 and Highway 9.

Washington State Patrol troopers were investigating the accident that had shut down U.S. 2 since about 2 p.m. Westbound U.S. 2 was expected to open to traffic about 4 p.m. And eastbound U.S. 2 was expected to open by 5 p.m. Traffic had been rerouted to Highway 9.

The Washington State Patrol was withholding the names, age and hometowns of the men involved in the accident until family had been notified. The motorcyclists were from Snohomish County communities.

State Patrol troopers at the scene said it appeared the deceased motorcyclist, who was entering eastbound U.S. 2 from Highway 9 had clipped the other motorcyclist, lost control of his bike and slid into the eastbound tanker truck. A third motorcyclist traveling with the two other men was not injured.
