The hearing Tuesday in Seattle follows previous Coast Guard and National Transportation Safety Board hearings in Dutch Harbor and Anchorage. They are compiling testimony and information about the Alaska Ranger. The 203-foot Seattle-based ship went down March 23 about 120 miles west of Dutch Harbor in the Aleutian Islands. Five people died, including one who fell from the basket of a rescue helicopter. Forty-two crewmen were rescued. The 35-year-old ship was owned by Fishing Company of Alaska, based in Seattle. It was on its way to mackerel grounds in rough seas when it began taking on water through the rudder room.
