Associated Press WASHINGTON -- Washington state members of Congress are joining labor leaders to protest the massive Air Force tanker contract that Boeing Co. lost to a European rival. Organizers of the Capitol Hill rally are calling on the government to protect jobs by investing in the U.S. aerospace defense industry. In February, the Air Force awarded a $35 billion contract for refueling tankers to European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co. and its U.S. partner, Northrop Grumman Corp. Chicago-based Boeing has filed a formal protest over the contract process. Boeing would have performed much of the tanker work in Everett, Wash., and Wichita, Kan. Lawmakers favorable to Boeing are considering legislation to overhaul the Pentagon's procurement process or block funding for the deal.
