    Stanwood resumes its winning ways

STANWOOD -- After an unexpected long hiatus, the Stanwood Spartans were back on the court looking to accomplish something they hadn't done in weeks -- finish another tennis meet.

Playing in just their second meet in over two weeks, the Spartans cruised through the singles matches and overcame some tough doubles contests en route to a 7-0 sweep of Marysville-Pilchuck in the Wesco North meet.

"We haven't played a match for two weeks because of spring break and rainouts. Arlington (Wednesday's opponent) was the first one. We need to get back into the groove of playing again. It was neat to see all the girls come through," Stanwood head coach Trudy Abrams said.

At No. 1 singles, Stanwood's Alicia Tobin and Melanie Winkler bounced back from a 3-6 loss in their first set against the Tomahawks' April Bobadilla and Kelsey Brubaker, defeating the Marysville-Pilchuck duo 6-3, 7-6 (7) in the final two sets.

"The girls came back and made some adjustments," Abrams said.

With the score tied 1-1, the No. 2 doubles team of Laine Daly and Lauren Rogers used a 6-4 victory to put away the Tomahawks' Taylor Olsen and Amy Famelos.

"With our doubles, we've been trying to work on good combinations and they came through tonight," Abrams added.
