by Eric Fetters There's a bunch of updates today to stories I've posted about the past couple weeks. So, in the spirit of the overused end-of-the-week roundup, here we go:
Some in the Webosphere have suggested the Microsoft's decree that it will stop selling Windows XP on June 30 is an empty threat. That, based on the protests from fans of XP, the software giant would, at the last minute, issue a reprieve, thus making its customers happy and looking like the hero.
That all seemed far-fetched and like a big conspiracy theory until I saw this. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer seemed to say that if customers rise up and demand XP, then XP will stick around.
Then, Microsoft sent out a clarification saying that XP will be gone after all. But the news reports about XP all through today still are conflicted, hinting that XP may still be on sale after June.
Meanwhile, SiliconValley.com says it isn't too proud to beg when it comes to XP's future.
And word got out that Apple and AT&T will debut the 3G version of the iPhone, which can run on the most advanced wireless networks available in the U.S., in early June.
