A joint Snohomish County Chambers legislative recognition breakfast will feature a Snohomish County business forum and business champion awards presentation, from 7 to 9 a.m. May 6 at the Everett Golf and Country Club. Deborah Knutson, president of the Snohomish County Economic Development Council, will provide an overview of the business climate in Snohomish County and moderate a panel with local industry leaders. Businesses were selected from a range of key industries in the county including retail, aerospace, health care and development. Forum panelists include Jerry Alder, general manager, Alderwood Management; Dale Peinecke, president and CEO, Giddens Industries; Geoffrey Thomas, project manager, Sundquist Homes; and Dave Brooks, CEO, Providence Everett Medical Centers. Job fair

WorkSource Snohomish County will hold its the sixth semi-annual Multicultural Employment and Resource Fair, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 8 at the Everett Community College Parks Building, 2000 Tower St. in Everett. Businesses will have the opportunity to meet diverse job candidates, many who are multilingual. Interpreters will be on site providing translation services for people who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Bosnian and Serbo-Croatian. The fair is open to all job candidates.

Edmonds Community College Career Fair, which will feature more than 40 employers, is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 15 in Triton Union 202. Workshops

A series of financial literacy events will be held around Snohomish County during May and June, thanks to a grant geared at offering financial asset development mentorship training for human service workers from agencies in Snohomish County. The grant, acquired by Workforce Development Council Snohomish County and the Snohomish County Financial Asset Development Coalition, was received from Washington State Community, Trade and Economic Development. Financing an education seminars will be held from noon to 1 p.m. May 9 at Council's office, 728 134th St. SW in Everett. Financing a business startup is from noon to 1 p.m. June 9 at the Northwest Women's Business Center, 2333 Seaway Blvd., Suite 108, in Everett. Also, four general financial asset workshops, all from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will be held at the following locations: Stillaguamish Senior Center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd., Arlington, May 28; Workforce Development Council Snohomish County, June 10; Monroe School District Board Room, 200 E. Fremont, June 18; and WorkSource Lynnwood, 20311 52nd Ave. W., June 25. Workshops will provide human and social service workers with basic tips and tools to connect their clients with resources to help meet financial goals. The Department of Revenue and the Employment Security Department are joining forces to educate businesses in Snohomish County about state tax requirements through a free tax workshop, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. May 14 at the Everett Public Library's main branch, located at 2702 Hoyt Ave. Topics include requirements for various types of businesses, how to report and pay state taxes properly, requirements for reporting new employees and services that are available through WorkSource. The Washington State Patrol's Commercial Vehicle Division, recognized as a national leader in commercial vehicle motor safety, is recruiting to fill multiple Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer openings throughout the state. The Association of Washington Business announced the Spady family, which founded and owns Dick's Drive-In Restaurants, is the winner of the association's 2008 Bruce Briggs Community Service Award. The Spady family -- Dick, the founder of the company; son Jim; and Jim's wife Fawn -- works for causes incluidng educational reform and re-structuring county government. Awards received by Dick's Drive-In include the 2006 National Community Service Award from the Daughters of the American Revolution, the 2006 Hero Award from Washington Dollars for Scholars and honors from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The association will present the award to the Spady family at its annual spring board meeting in Spokane on May 21.
