MARYSVILLE -- A woman was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when her car was broadsided by a flatbed truck on northbound I-5 near Marysville.
The 30-year-old Marysville woman suffered a head injury, State Patrol Lt. R.S. Wright said. She was listed in serious condition Wednesday night at Providence Everett Medical Center. The woman was traveling alone and the drivers of the other two vehicles involved were not injured.
The accident took place on the bridge above Ebey Slough. Traffic backed up for more than five miles south of the scene following the 5:35 p.m. crash. The left three lanes were blocked, with drivers allowed to creep past in the right lane before the scene was finally cleared about 7:45 p.m.
The woman made "an aggressive lane change," before the accident, a State Patrol memo said. She apparently entered the freeway northbound from Highway 529, Wright said. As she merged inward, her four-door Dodge Stratus sedan was hit from behind by another car, spun around and was hit squarely by the truck on the right side, Wright said.
"She caught the truck right in the driver's door," he said.
The woman had to be extricated from the car, Wright said.
