Weekend reading: STP, Sly Stone and Lil Mama

Posted at 3:54 pm

Don’t get me wrong, I like Chicago Tribune rock critic Greg Kot quite a bit, but sometimes, the dude sounds a little too blown away by who’s calling him.

Back in 2005, he got a call from Bono, who was irked by a bad review. The story started with Kot being blown away by the fact Bono, a rock star, deigned to call him — a well-established rock critic for one of the biggest papers in the United States.

With all due respect, doesn’t that come with the job, man?

He starts off his article about Sly Stone in a similar fashion. Still, it’s a good read, and is included below, along with articles about Lil Mama and Scott Weiland.

  • Apparently, Sly Stone used human remains as a hat rack for a time. So there’s that.

  • Lil Mama really does love that lip gloss, we find out in this endearing New York Times article. (You may need to register with the NYT to get to the article.)

  • Scott Weiland does not heart Velvet Relover, we find out in this Rolling Stone article that rehashes his abrupt departure from that band to reform Stone Temple Pilots and make loads of money.
