Shorewood wins with long balls

MONROE -- Geordan Medalia hit a two-run home run in the third inning and Bobby LeCount blasted a solo shot in the third to give Shorewood a 3-2 win over Monroe in a 4A District 1 baseball playoff game Tuesday at Marshall Field.

LeCount also recorded a save, pitching the final 2/3 of an inning in relief of winning pitcher Alex Kuniyoshi.

Monroe had the potential tying run thrown out at home plate for the last out of the game.

Monroe could not take advantage of nine walks issued by the two Shorewood pitchers.

Monroe pitcher Ian Parmley batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Everett 3, Sedro-Woolley 1: At Bellingham, Jake Frauenholtz of Everett gave up only one run over seven innings and teammate Brice Herrick was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the first-round 3A District 1 playoff game. Everett advanced to a 6:30 p.m. semifinal today at Sherman Anderson Field in Mt. Vernon.
