Herald staff
MOUNT VERNON -- Everett wasn't intimidated by a Ferndale team that had won 11 more games than it had and was ranked No. 3 in the state in the coaches' poll, and now the Seagulls will play in the winner-to-state 3A District 1 championship game.
"I guess we're even now," Everett head coach Ron Burdett said.
Everett's Jake Frauenholtz batted 3-for-3 with two RBI, Brice Herrick batted 3-for-5 with a crucial two-run single and Everett outlasted Ferndale 7-3 in nine innings in a semifinal district game at Sherman Anderson Field in Mount Vernon.
"We played good defense and we had timely hitting," Burdett said. "... (A) hard fought game."
The Seagulls scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning.
"They made an error in the ninth (to advance runners)," Burdett said. "We took advantage."
Herrick hit his two-RBI single in the ninth to put Everett up for good and David Andre added a double to score another run.
