Weekend reading: Ben Gibbard of Death Cab, the Roots and Neil Diamond

Posted at 12:01 am

In case you haven’t heard, there’s this group called Death Cab for Cutie, and they have a new album coming out on Tuesday.

Singer Ben Gibbard wrote about the record for Paste Magazine. He occassionally grows a bit defiant as he recounts the band's lean years, saying he feels Death Cab’s first record is by no means their best.

Anyway, here’s a look at that and other recent articles.

  • Apparently, these days, when Ben Gibbard invites friends out for a drink, they tell him they can’t go, because they don’t want to be stuck in “perpetual adolescence forever.” Total drag, right? But for serious, Gibbard wrote a nice litte essay for Paste Magazine about "Narrow Stairs."

  • Paste also did a Q&A with Neil Diamond. Some of the leftovers went online, including a nice little bit about his participation in “The Last Waltz,” often called the greatest rock movie ever made.

  • Aimee Mann tells Newsweek having loads of money enables you to slowly kill yourself.

  • The Roots aren’t only concerned about the future of the world. They tell the New York Times they’re also a bit worried about their own future. (Incidentally, you may have to register with NYTimes.com to access the article.
