PREP ROUNDUP: Archbishop Murphy notches district crown

ANACORTES -- Archbishop Murphy's batters were persisent and productive. Now the Wildcats are 2A District 1 champions.

Archbishop Murphy scored in five different innings and received four innings of scoreless relief pitching from Dylan Healow to defeat Cedarcrest 9-6 Saturday in Anacortes.

"I'm real proud of the guys," Archbishop Murphy head coach Mark Potoshnik said. "We had consistent offensive production."

Pat Kelly was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI and sophomore Konrad Garbrick added two RBI on two hits.

Cedarcrest scored all six of its runs in the third inning, before Healow entered and shut them out the rest of the way.

Lynden 11, Lakewood 0: At Anacortes, Lynden won on the 2A District 1 winner-to-state, loser-out game on the 10-run rule after breaking a scoreless tie with eight runs in the fifth inning and three in the sixth.

Concrete 13, Darrington 3: At Stanwood, the Darrington defense committed six errors and its pitchers issued eight walks in the 2B Tri-District championship game.

"We weren't ready to play and they were," Darrington coach Gilbran Smith said. "It was uncharacteristic of our pitchers. We were in trouble every inning. We got down and stayed down."

Darrington advances to state as the tri-district's No. 2 seed and will play at the Mossyrock regional.

Softball

1B Bi-District playoffs: At Elma, Highland Christian's first-year fastpitch program defeated Oakville 30-12 in four innings to take a loser-out playoff victory. Catcher Sierra Biemer batted 3-for-4 with a home run and Amy Merritt hit a home run, a double and triple. Highland Christian (3-14) lost the following loser-out playoff to Lake Quinault 2-1.

Track

Northwest 1B meet: At Sedro-Woolley, Grace Academy's girls team won the team championship by one point, edging North Sound Christian 111-110. Annie Ubben won the long jump, Victoria West won the triple jump and Grace took the 1,600-meter relay. In the boys meet, Brian Young set a school record of 18 feet, 4 inches in the long jump to place first.

At Sedro-Woolley H.S.

Girls

1600--Grace Academy 4:46.3; Long Jump-- Ubben (GA) 13--5.5; Triple Jump--West (GA) 28--9.5.

Boys

110 hurdles--Lee (GA) 17.4; Long Jump--Young (GA) 18--4.
