Big Game Hunter: Video game basics

Here's a new weekly feature on random facets of the world of video games by The Herald's own Big Game Hunter, Justin Arnold.

To get you started, a lexicon.

Gamer Glossary

Gamer: Someone who plays video games.

Pro: A video game player who is good at a specific game or in-game content.

Noob: Someone who is new at a game.

Lowbie: A video game player who is of low rank.

Griefer: Someone who antagonizes other players on purpose.

Hax: When someone uses a third-party application to cheat in the game.

1337: Code for "elite."

PWND!: A term reserved for a player destroying another player in game or a nonplayer character or object.

Frag out: When you throw a grenade or use a splash-damage munition in game that could hurt or damage team members.

Loot: Gear or in-game currency awarded for downing a boss, mob or opponent.

QQ: Reserved for players who whine incessantly.

NPC: A nonplayer character, such as a quest-giver.

Mob: An in-game monster, creature or humanoid that can attack you or you can attack.
