Now for a word from your blogger ...

First things first, I’d like to thank you for stopping by.
Earlier this year I convinced my boss, the sports editor, that there was an audience for auto racing in this area. (Well, “convinced” isn’t really right, “whined and begged” is probably closer to the truth).
And I said the Internet was the way to go. I still get some stories in the paper, like my feature on Snohomish sprint car driver Robby Vaugh (CLICK HERE to read), but the Web’s big advantage is unlimited space for a single topic like auto racing.
Second, I’d like to thank you for providing feedback, asking questions and being part of the journey over the past three months.
Also, I’d like to encourage you to do more of the same.
I have been lucky enough to get access to places and people as a member of the “media” and I’m not afraid to use it. I may or may not get you an answer, but you can be sure if I don’t it won’t be for lack of trying.
Last Saturday at Evergreen Speedway I stopped by the pit of super stock racer Jeff Knight to say howdy. After exchanging pleasantries, I headed off down the pit lane and Jeff waved me off by telling me to “Go find that story.”
I found that amusing because finding a story has never been a problem. Many of them find me: quite a few of the auto racing feature stories I’ve written in the past two years have been suggested by others including fans, other drivers and track officials.
So, let me know what you’re thinking. If there’s a story that you think should be told, let me know that, too. I can’t guarantee it will get told here, but as one of my former Captains once said: “You rarely get what you don’t ask for.”
Send me your photos, too, if they’re funny or exciting or somehow tell your story. The photo above came courtesy of Tanya Parker and shows yours truly eating chips and salsa in Naima Lang’s trailer a couple weeks ago at Evergreen Speedway. As you can see, sometimes it can be pretty rough what a reporter has to do to get a quote.
