MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – Oil left cooking on the stove is blamed for an early morning fire that displaced four people and caused around $110,000 damage to a Mountlake Terrace home.
Residents of the home called 911 around 1 a.m. to report fire in the 23100 block of 65th Place W, said Snohomish County Fire District 1 Leslie Hynes.
Two women were home and got out of the house safely. One woman told firefighters her mother was in the living room and started yelling, “fire.”
The woman was able to help her mother into a wheelchair as the house was filling with smoke, Hynes said. Two men also live in the home but were not there at the time of the fire.
Firefighters from district 1, Edmonds and Lynnwood quickly extinguished the blaze and no one was hurt.
The fire was contained to the kitchen but heavy smoke and heat damaged the rest of the home leaving it uninhabitable, Hynes said.
The residents have homeowner’s insurance, she said. Red Cross responded to provide assistance.
