Weekend reading: More Death Cab, along with Cyndi Lauper, American Idol

Posted at 3:33 pm

I've only got a handful of articles and interviews to share with you guys this week, but here's what caught my eye on the Internets:

  • The guys in Death Cab for Cutie talk with VH1 about the meaning behind their new songs. Ben Gibbard mentions he had a running list with Nick Harmer of sad things. Top sad thing: An old woman eating a slice of birthday cake in a grocery store deli.

  • In a book review, the New York Times writes about how Carly Simon, Carole King and Joni Mitchell pursued true love while on the pill. (You may have to register with NYTimes.com to read this article.)

  • Cyndi Lauper with Newsweek? Brassy.

  • This New Yorker article tells you a bunch of things you probably already know about American Idol - but that second to last paragraph ("Archuleta’s woodland-creature routine feels increasingly forced") is fun.
