PREP ROUNDUP: It's all Wesco in 3A girls tennis district finals

ARLINGTON -- Wesco tennis represented itself well Thursday at the Class 3A District 1 Girls tournament, producing all six players who will be playing for the district title today at Arlington High School.

Senior Ivan Krommelova, who entered the tournament as the Wesco #1 seed, swept both Everett's Julie Mills and Shorecrest's Belinda Pan without losing a single game. She faces the Scots' Alena Owen, the Wesco #2 seed, in the championship match today.

Owen beat Mount Vernon's Hannah Kinsolving 6-0, 6-0 before facing a tougher challenge in the semis in the form of Squalicum's Amy Wilson. After winning the opening set 6-2, she held off the Northwest Conference's top seed in an 8-6 second set tiebreaker.

In doubles action, it will be the Meadowdale duo of Sara Porteson and Lianne Fijalka vying against Shorecrest's Natalie Simpson and Kyoka Izawa for the District 1 crown.

The two Mavs pulled off an upset of sorts in the second round, as the #3 Wesco seed beat the #1 seed, Shorecrest's Kelset Monson and Lauren Olson, 6-4, 7-5.
