Rick Steves, take us away

Rick Steves moves to Saturdays, and today he writes about a getaway to Spain.

Rick visits a college town called Salamanca, where he learns that the Spanish word for marijuana is -- get this -- marijuana. His mind blown, Rick goes on a fruitless search for Spanish Doritos.

For Rick's next travel book, there's a place right here in Washington that's drawing thousands of visitors. It's the Hanford nuclear reservation.

The experience of wandering the nation's most radioactive site is drawing raves from tourists. In fact, some come away positively glowing.

Or he could visit Muskogee, Okla., which recently elected a 19-year-old college freshman as its mayor.

The honorable John Hammons will lead a city about the size of Marysville, but plagued by pests such as boll weevils and owners of the Seattle SuperSonics.

Or he can stay right at home and watch the Seattle Storm, who begin their season tonight against Chicago.

The Storm look really good on paper, but that doesn't mean much. Just look across town. The Mariners looked good on paper, but they haven't done so well on dirt and grass.
