Book briefs

"Skeleton" key: Meet author Chris Bohjalian at a reception at 4:30 p.m. today at Third Place Books as he brings his latest novel, "Skeleton at the Feast." The book is based on a true-life World War II diary. The reception is free, but reservations are required. The author will talk about and sign copies of the book at 5:30 p.m. Call Third Place Books at 206-366-3333 for reception reservations. The bookstore is in the Lake Forest Park Town Center, 17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park. Find out about more events online at www.thirdplacebooks.com.

Take a hike: And do it close to home with local author Ken Wilcox. You can hear all about his "Hiking Snohomish County" at a talk and book signing at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the University Book Store in Mill Creek. The event is free and, of course, so are the hikes. The University Book Store, Mill Creek is at Mill Creek Town Center, 15311 Main St. Call 425-385-3530 or 866-341-READ, or check the Web sit, www.bookstore.washington.edu, for more information.

Bragging rights: Former New York Times writer and author Rick Bragg will talk about the third in his collection of moving stories about his family and their struggles in dirt-poor Alabama, "The Prince of Frogtown," at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Third Place Books. Bragg says this final volume, following "All Over but the Shoutin'" and "Ava's Man," was inspired by his relationship with his 10-year-old stepson.
