Opponents lining up against passenger flights at Paine Field

EVERETT -- City and Snohomish County officials are ramping up their fight against a proposal to bring commercial airline flights to and from Paine Field.
An opposition letter is expected to be sent today to Allegiant Air, a company that wrote Snohomish County last week announcing it was interested in offering flights between Paine Field and Las Vegas.
Also, the mayors of Lynnwood and Edmonds and members of the airline opposition group Save Our Communities urged the County Council on Monday to oppose any effort to bring commercial flights to Paine Field.
The county plans to create a Web site later this week to keep people informed about the status of the proposal for commercial flights.
County Councilman Brian Sullivan on Monday introduced a resolution declaring opposition to air passenger service and air cargo service, but a vote was delayed until June 4 when all five councilmen are expected to be present.
Sullivan and County Executive Aaron Reardon last week said they are both opposed to commercial flights at Paine Field.
Officials now are trying decide whether federal law requires the county to allow or deny airline service at the county-owned airport.
