Meadowdale hires new girls basketball coach

Onetime boys coach Troy Parker takes over for Dan Taylor, who stepped down recently

LYNNWOOD -- Meadowdale High School has found its new girls basketball coach.

Troy Parker, a longtime teacher and coach at the school, has taken over the reins of one of the state's premier programs.

Parker has been a teacher at Meadowdale since 1997. He was the coach of the boys team from 1997-2002, he's been an assistant coach for the football team, and he's also been involved in girls youth basketball in the area.

"It's a privilege to be able to work with such an outstanding group of girls," Parker said in a press release. "I am looking forward to aiding their growth as athletes, as students, and as individuals, and I hope to build upon the success this program has had year after year."

Meadowdale has one of the most successful girls basketball programs in the state. The Mavericks qualified for the state tournament in 15 of the past 16 seasons, winning class 3A state titles in 2000 and 2004. Last season Meadowdale finished 24-5 and placed fifth at state.

Parker succeeds Dan Taylor, who resigned after three seasons to spend more time with his family.

"I'm very excited to have Troy Parker as our head girls basketball coach," Meadowdale principal Dale Cote said in the release. "He provides excellent head coaching experience and has a great connection with students because of his position as a teacher at Meadowdale High School. Our girls are lucky to have him as a coach, and our entire school and community will benefit from his leadership and passion for working with student athletes."
