Reed was with the team in Detroit on Monday, a day before the Mariners face the Tigers in the opener of a six-game road trip. Reed will be making his first appearance in the majors this season. At one time, Reed was believed to be the Mariners' center fielder of the future after being acquired in a trade from the White Sox. However, he has struggled each of the last three years in his time up with Seattle, never hitting above .254, and eventually causing the team to move Ichiro Suzuki from right field to center. This season, Reed was hitting .349 with 11 doubles, six homers and 21 RBI in 38 games at Tacoma. Seattle also claimed right-handed pitcher Tracy Thorpe off waivers from Toronto. Thorpe was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on May 10, despite going 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA and four saves at Class AAA Syracuse in the International League.
