MARINERS: Seattle designates Baek for assignment

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Mariners have designated right-hander Cha Seung Baek for assignment after he surrendered three homers and four runs in two innings in the team's series opener at Detroit.

The 27-year-old Baek was battered in a relief appearance in a 12-8 loss to the Tigers on Monday night. The Mariners designated him for assignment before Tuesday night's game at Detroit, a 9-4 defeat.

The Mariners have 10 days to trade, release, option or assign Baek outright to the minors. With the roster move, the Mariners have 38 players on their major league 40-man roster.

Baek pitched in 10 games, including one start, for the Mariners this season. He posted an 0-1 record with a 6.00 ERA.
