Shelly Talcott, Owner - Rubenesque Yoga
A social worker with a bachelor’s degree in psychology by day and a yoga teacher by night, Shelly Talcott realized her ideal business when she was a student of yoga.
Talcott’s turning point came when she was at a yoga teaching retreat in California.
“There was one person who didn’t like me being plus-sized,” Talcott said. The man felt that if Talcott could get through the training then it wasn’t for him. He left the retreat. Talcott was hurt by his reaction but chose to focus on the events of the program. Afterward, she resolved to teach yoga for plus-size people.
“Gentle yoga is great for people who have limited motion and those who are stressed or think they can’t attend a class because they don’t feel flexible,” she said.
