Davis, who served as coach of Shorewood's junior varsity boys team this past season, replaces Teddy Mitalas, who resigned to coach the girls team at Holy Names Academy. Davis played goalkeeper for four years at Whitman College in Walla Walla. He graduated in 2003 and served as a graduate assistant coach at Whitman for one year. "We're out there to have a good time and create a good team that's going to win some games," said Davis, a 27-year-old Connecticut native. "I'm fresh out of the game. I remember what it's like playing. I try to bring that energy and enthusiasm with me. "I should have a very good squad," he added. "My goal next year is to make it to a state tournament." Davis, who majored in physics and astronomy at Whitman, is completing his second year as a physics teacher at Shorewood. He is the first in-building teacher to coach the girls soccer team since the 1995-96 season, which was the last of Steve Kelley's 11 years at the helm of the program. Being a teacher in the building was an important factor in selecting Davis for the position, Shoreline School District athletic director Don Dalziel said in a press release. Shorewood hires cross country coaches: Thor Anderson and Daniel Soler have been hired to coach Shorewood's boys and girls cross country programs, respectively. Anderson and Soler replace Howie Wood, whose contract was not renewed for next year. Anderson, who is the co-head coach of the Shorecrest gymnastics team, and Soler, both are teachers at Shorewood.
