Klinghoffer believes, based on his interpretation of the Bible, that God is a Republican. Did he register? The book lists at $24.95. Another viewpoint comes from journalist Robert Scheer when he talks about "The Pornography of Power: How Defense Hawks Hijacked 9/11 and Weakened America" at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Town Hall Seattle. Though a liberal, Scheer aligns his theories with President Dwight Eisenhower's farewell speech in which he warned Americans about the growing military-industrial complex. Scheer is currently editor of Truthdig.com. The presentation is part of the Town Hall Center for Civic Life. Admission is $5; the book costs $24.99. Hodding Carter as he reads from and signs "Off the Deep End: The probably Insane Idea That I Could Swim My Way to Youth, and Qualify for the Olympics, at Age Forty-Five." Carter will be at the University Book Store, 4326 University Way, in Seattle at 7 p.m. Friday. He may not make the cut in late June for the Beijing Games (shouldn't he be training instead of touring?) but says he'll push on for 2012. "Deep End" lists at $21.95.
