Everett lightweight eight places first at junior nationals

    The Everett Rowing Association lightweight eight celebrates its first-place finish at the USRowing Junior National Championships at Harsha Lake in Cincinnati.

The Everett Rowing Association's men's youth lightweight eight placed first Sunday at the USRowing Junior National Championships at Harsha Lake in Cincinnati.

The Everett team held off boats from McCallie/GPS of Chattanooga, Tenn., and St. Joseph's Prep of Philadelphia to win the 2,000-meter grand final by more than a boat length. Everett finished with a time of 6:02.67, four seconds ahead of the runner-up.

The Everett lightweight eight includes Aaron Meyers, Trevor Liska, Joel Hummel, Allen Cox, Tore Werner, Tucker Keyes, Gabe Gribler, Simon Wold, coxswain Jordan Kellett and alternate Scott Schmitz.

Two other Everett boats rowed at the national championships. The women's youth eight finished first in the C Final, placing 13th in the nation. And the men's youth eight finished fifth in the Petite Final, placing 11th in the nation.

Also competing in Cincinnati were crews from the Lake Stevens Rowing Club, with the LSRC's junior men's four placing second nationally. The boat included Paul Pratt, Dan Morgan, Jorgen Anderson and Chad Andrews.

Also from the LSRC, the junior women's four placed third in the Petite Final and Grady McGuire took second in the junior men's 1X Petite Final.
