GAO sustains Boeing's protest of Air Force tanker award

Government regulators have sustained the Boeing Co.’s protest of a $35 billion Air Force tanker contract.

Boeing protested the Air Force’s decision to award Northrop Grumman and EADS the contract with the Government Accountability Office. The GAO sided with Boeing saying the Air Force made significant errors in selecting the Northrop and EADS tanker over Boeing’s KC-767, a military version of the 767 airliner.

The Air Force selected Northrop and EADS’ tanker on Feb. 29. Boeing filed a protest with the GAO in mid-March alleging irregularities in the bid process.

The GAO recommended on Wednesday that the Air Force revise its decision.

The Air Force has 60 days to decide whether it will comply with the GAO's recommendations. The GAO's ruling isn't binding.

See the GAO's full statement about the protest here.
