Wold named boys basketball coach at Monroe High School

Nick Wold has been named the boys basketball coach at Monroe High School.

Wold, a Monroe assistant coach the past five seasons, replaces Brett Wille, who in April resigned to concentrate on his athletic director and assistant principal responsibilities at the school.

Wold teaches health at Monroe High. He is a 1998 Mariner High graduate who excelled in football and basketball. His hiring was approved Monday by the Monroe School Board, Wille said.

Asked about his goals for the program, Wold, Monroe’s junior-varsity coach the past three years, said: “Our main philosophy is build success. We want to be able to shape it and mold it for each player.”

Last season Monroe was 10-6 in Western Conference North Division games and 13-7 overall. The Bearcats nearly qualified for the Class 4A District 1 tournament but lost a tiebreaker with Stanwood and Lake Stevens.

Wold is organized and has a good vision for where he wants to take the program, Wille said.

“He expects a lot out of kids. He gets (them) to play really hard,” Wille said.
