Everett Silvertips announce exhibition sschedule

EVERETT -- The Everett Silvertips on Wednesday announced their preseason schedule for the 2008-09 season.

The seven-game preseason kicks off with the fifth annual Everett Silvertips Preseason Tournament on Aug. 29-31 at Comcast Arena. All five U.S. Division teams, along with Chilliwack, will take part in the tournament. Everett faces reigning Memorial Cup champion Spokane on Aug. 29, Seattle on Aug. 30 and Chilliwack on Aug. 31. All three games are at 7 p.m.

The following weekend the Tips travel to Kennewick for the Red Lion Hotels Preseason Tournament hosted by Tri-City. Everett plays twice at the tournament, facing Spokane at 7:05 p.m. on Sept. 4, and Portland at 2 p.m. on Sept. 5.

The preseason schedule wraps up with home-and-home games against Tri-City. The teams face off at 7:35 p.m. on Sept. 12 in Everett, then play at 7:05 p.m. the following night at Tri-City.

Ticket packages for the Everett Silvertips Preseason Tournament, featuring three games each day, are now on sale at the Silvertips office or by calling 425-252-5100.

Of note

Import draft today: The Silvertips are not expected to take part in the Canadian Hockey League import draft, which takes place today.

The import draft is the method through which the CHL distributes European players among its teams so they can fill their two European roster slots. Everett already has two European players on its roster -- 19-year-old Russian center Vitaly Karamnov and 19-year-old Slovakian left wing Lukas Vartovnik -- and traded its first-round pick to Regina in exchange for Regina's first-round pick in 2009. Sudbury of the Ontario Hockey League holds the first overall selection. Portland has the first pick among WHL teams, picking third overall.
