And probably, there's something or other everybody actually needs, too. Sometimes, the want and need even connect, which happens to be the case today. Here we go: SOS: Camano Island reader Caroline Oberg says, "I am unable to find a good recipe for a rhubarb custard pie. Can any of your readers help?'' SOS: Dean Tuininga of Everett tells us, "I have childhood memories of quince jam. Since my mother didn't keep written recipes of the many fruits, berries, jam and jellies, I failed to obtain any of them before she died in 1958. "A few years ago, I found some quince jam at an RV park in Pennsylvania which brought back the memories. Does anybody by any chance have a recipe for this very uniquely flavored jam? I would greatly appreciate it.'' SOS: Snohomish cook Karen LaPine continues to hope Forum folks can come up with a certain recipe for an Italian vegetarian lasagna. "It is wonderful,'' she says. "It has spinach and mushrooms, onions and zucchini in it -- perhaps olives, but I'm not sure. It has three sauces, red, green and white, to represent the Italian flag, I presume. Perhaps one of your readers has a similar recipe.'' SOS: Michele Cozad of Arlington writes, "I've been searching the Internet, going to the library, etc., to try and find a recipe from my childhood that we called bubka. "There is a babka, which is a Polish Easter bread, but my late mother's recipe for bubka is made with grated potatoes, side pork, maybe eggs or oatmeal. "After mixing the ingredients, she baked it in a roasting pan, cooled it and fried it. "Regretfully, when she passed, so did the recipe. Is there any chance any of your readers have heard of this recipe? I would love to duplicate it for my grandchildren.'' SOS: We hear from Jeanette Huntsman of Camano Island, "My girlfriend and I are talking about a casserole from our childhood. Her family called it African chow mein, but I don't know what we called it. "Hers was made with chicken and ours with hamburger. They both had cream of mushroom soup, rice, onions, celery, bean sprouts and ??? I can't find my recipe and she's experimented, but can't get it right. We were wondering if any of your readers remember anything like this.'' SOS: Everett reader Myrna McCleary says, "I have a request for Elizabeth Bennett of Mill Creek. I would appreciate it very much if she would share her recipe for chicken thighs baked in a chipotle-molasses glaze and topped with a lime creme fraiche. She did the recipe in 2005 in 'Cook Like a Californian,' sponsored by the California Poultry Federation." SOS: Sharon Ringstad of Lynnwood says she would love to have a recipe for Thai-style cashew chicken and hopes someone can share the specifics for this entree. SOS: Pennie Hinchcliffe asks if anyone can supply a recipe for Hollywood bread. "I've been looking for it for years and would really love to have it,'' she says. SOS: Everett cook Mary Allen is looking for a recipe for a pumpkin pie that includes pineapple and bananas.
