Biffle signs 3-year extension with Roush Fenway Racing

Vancouver, Wash., driver's showcar at Evergreen Speedway Saturday

LOUDON, N.H. -- Greg Biffle reached an agreement on a three-year contract extension with Roush Fenway Racing.

"Certainly I'm very excited to announce that we've done a multiyear extension with Roush Fenway," the Vancouver, Wash., native and driver of the No. 16 Ford said Friday.

He said the long-anticipated deal includes primary sponsorship by 3M for the next three years.

"3M has stepped up," said Biffle, whose contract was to expire at the end of the year. "They had a multiyear deal to start with, but they came and re-upped, so to speak, recommitted to being on the car for those races."

The extension has been a long time coming, with Biffle apparently looking at other opportunities before deciding to put his major effort into finding a way to stay with the team co-owned by Jack Roush and the Fenway Sports Group.

"It was a long process," Biffle said. "I weighed, certainly, all of my options out and it felt like the 16 car is where I really wanted to spend my next three years driving.

"A lot of things went into making a decision on where I was going to be. One was Ford's commitment to the racing program and supporting us technologically, and Roush Fenway's commitment to put (general manager) Robbie Reiser in the position that they did. I just feel like were making all the right decisions at our company right now to win championships and races, and I like all the guys on the 16 team."

Biffle has been with the Roush team since 2003 and has 12 victories. He is seventh in the season standings. His best career finish in the points was second in 2005, but Biffle has slipped to 13th and 14th the past two seasons, missing the Chase for the championship.

But Biffle said he never got serious about going to another team.

"There were a huge amount of opportunities for me and I'm very lucky and blessed to have those opportunities presented to me," he said. "I just felt like what my primary thing was going to be is figure out whether I wanted to be at Roush Fenway going into the future, first, and then if that wasn't going to happen, then I was going to figure out where I was going to end up, and I never got to that process."

A showcar replica of Biffle's No. 16 Sprint Cup Ford Fusion will be on display from 4-7 p.m. at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, courtesy of Jackson Hewitt Tax Service, a secondary sponsor to 3M.
