The 2009-2015 Capital Facilities Plan prioritizes funding for improvements to parks, roads, utilities and new facilities. The $250 million plan budgets funding for more than 40 projects. The plan includes park space acquisition, a new city hall and public works building and enhancements and extensions of Main Street. The last time the city updated its capital improvement plan was in 2006. Marysville Marysville resolution on Paine Field flights The Marysville City Council has weighed in on the issue of commercial air service at Paine Field. The council, stopping short of expressing support for air service, unanimously approved a resolution June 23 asking that Snohomish County uphold its commitments with the Federal Aviation Administration. Allegiant Air, a Las Vegas-based airline, last month expressed interest in offering two to four flights per week from county-run Paine Field to Las Vegas. County elected officials and city leaders in several south county cities came out against the plan. The Federal Aviation Administration then wrote a letter to county officials reminding them that to continue receiving federal funds for the airport, they must negotiate in good faith with any air service provider. County officials have said they intend to uphold their agreements with the airport. The Marysville resolution was placed on the agenda at the request of Mayor Dennis Kendall. Monroe U.S. 2 safety group to learn about scholarship The U.S. 2 Safety Coalition meets at 7 p.m. today at the Monroe public library, 1070 village Way. Lizzie Monroe, a Sultan High School student, plans to discuss a scholarship called the U.S. 2 Memorial Scholarship. Lizzie created the scholarship this year to help graduating seniors with college tuition and to honor those who died along U.S. 2. The safety coalition is a grass-roots group of local residents and officials in the Skykomish Valley committed to making the highway safer. Mountlake Terrace Emergency responses average 5.4 minutes Emergency response times from Snohomish County Fire District 1 are right where they should be in Mountlake Terrace, according to the district's annual report. In 2007, the district's response times were 8 minutes or less for 90 percent of the district's calls. The average response time was about 5.4 minutes. The total number of calls for service was virtually flat, growing just 1.1 percent since 2006. The fire district creates its annual report as part of its annual partnership agreement with the city. More info: 425-551-1200. Sultan Library board looking for volunteers The city is seeking Sultan area residents interested in serving on the Sultan Library Board. The library board makes recommendations to the City Council and acts as a liaison between the council and the Sno-Isle Regional Library System. The library system provides library services to residents of the area. The library board meets at 9:30 a.m. on the second Thursday in March, June, September and December at the Sultan Library. To be considered for an appointment to the library board, send or deliver a brief letter to the Sultan Library at P.O. Box 580, 319 Main St., Sultan, WA 98294. The letter should explain an applicant's interest; a resume citing an application's qualification also needs to be sent. Applications need to be accepted by 5 p.m. on July 19.
