Superintendent Carol Whitehead announced Friday that she will retire in September, saying a death threat against her life played a part in her decision to retire earlier than her original plans in January. Brandsma’s interim contract is for 10 months. Brandsma started out in the Everett district as associate superintendent six years ago and was later promoted to deputy superintendent. School board President Karen Madsen called Brandsma during the meeting to offer him the job and he accepted, said Mary Waggoner, a school district spokeswoman.
