Reward offered in Marysville fire

MARYSVILLE – The Snohomish County Fire Marshal said a reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information about a fire that caused around $525,000 damage to two Marysville homes and injured two firefighters Monday morning.

The fire started around 9:30 a.m. in the 3800 block of 64th Avenue NE on or beneath a wooden porch, officials said. It quickly spread inside one home and became so hot that it ignited a neighboring home.

One home was destroyed and the other house was badly damaged, said Mike Makela, a fire investigator with the county’s fire marshal’s office.

Two firefighters were taken to the hospital as a precaution with minor injuries.

On Tuesday, investigators wrapped up their on-scene work, Makela said.

Officials are still not certain what started the blaze, he said.

Investigators said they have eliminated all electrical causes and other possible malfunctions in the home. They’re still investigating if something else may have sparked the blaze or if someone could have set the fire intentionally.

The reward money is offered by Arson Alarm Foundation and the Washington Insurance Council.

Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-55-ARSON or 425-388-3557.
