Two hospitalized after morning fire

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – Two people were rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle this morning after a house fire in Mountlake Terrace.

A man and a woman, believed to be in their 40s or 50s, suffered injuries from smoke and flames, Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said.

The fire started around 7:30 a.m. in a home in the 22900 block of 41st Place W, she said. It appeared to start in the kitchen.

The blaze heavily damaged the home.

Two dogs escaped and officials were still looking for a cat, Hynes said.

A neighbor reported the fire and Mountlake Terrace and Brier police helped the couple until fire crews arrived.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
