Search continues for young whale tangled in crab lines

SEKIU, Wash. -- A young humpback whale entangled in crab lines hasn't been seen since early Sunday near Clallam Bay.
A research biologist with Cascadia Research, Erin Falcone said Monday the group still hopes to find the whale.
The director of the Olympia-based marine mammal research group, John Calambokidis, tracked the whale over the weekend in the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
He says the situation is life-threatening, because the whale will continue to grow, but the lines will not stretch.
Observers were able to attach marker buoys with a radio transmitter to the whale Saturday, but they were removed overnight by fishermen who thought they were helping.
