Assistant Monroe schools chief leaving

After 14 years with the Monroe School District, Mike Murphy is leaving to become the superintendent of the Clarke County School District in Berryville, Va.

He was assistant superintendent of Monroe schools for the last two years, specializing in facilities and maintenance, technology, career and technical education, and alternative educational programs. He has spent 30 years in education.

The Monroe School District hasn't filled his position yet.

Rotary group to award education grants

The Marysville Rotary Education Foundation is starting an education grant program.

The foundation plans to award scholarships and give grants to help provide educational opportunities and improve educational programs in Marysville.

The Marysville Rotary Education Foundation is a nonprofit charity affiliated with the Marysville Rotary Club.

Grants will be awarded quarterly, beginning this summer.

Grant applications may be obtained at the download area of the Marysville Rotary Web site at http://marysvillerotary.org.

Sultan budget ready for adoption

The Sultan School Board has finished estimates for the district's budget for 2008-2009.

The board plans a work study session to review the draft budget at 7 p.m. July 21 in the Sultan Elementary School library, 501 Date Ave.

The board plans to meet to adopt the budget from 6:30 to 7 p.m. July 28 in the Sultan Elementary School library. Anyone is welcome to attend and comment on the budget.

Copies of the budget are expected to be available beginning July 16 at the Sultan School District office, 514 Fourth St.

Edmonds School Board to discuss budget

The Edmonds School Board is scheduled to discuss the 2008-09 budget during a meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at the Edmonds Educational Services Center, 20420 68th Ave. W. in Lynnwood.

The district is attempting to cut $3.2 million from its current $179 million budget. The district plans to take some buses off the road, change school start times and eliminate positions.

The budget discussion will take place during the regular board meeting. The board is also scheduled to discuss graduation requirements, the 2008-13 Capital Facilities Plan and the leasing of district facilities.

EdCC planing fair for transfer students

Edmonds Community College offers an information fair for transfer students from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 24 in the first-floor lobby of Snoqualmie Hall at the college, 20000 68th Ave. W. in Lynnwood.

The fair is designed to help transfer students consider their options for continuing their college education. College representatives scheduled to attend include those from the Bastyr University, Central Washington University, Seattle University, the University of Washington in Bothell and Washington State University.

EvCC holds session on fire science

Prospective students are invited to attend an information session about the fire science and EMT program at Everett Community College.

The information session is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon at the Parks Student Union, Conference Room C at the college.

People attending the session should walk away with an overview of the fire science program. The entry requirements for the EMT and Fire 100 courses should also be explained.
