Wenatchee man charged with DUI had .46 blood-alcohol level

WENATCHEE -- A Wenatchee man charged with driving under the influence registered a blood-alcohol level of .46 percent, nearly six times the legal limit of .08 percent, after being stopped for driving erratically on U.S. 2 near Sunnyslope.

Chelan County Deputy Prosecutor Allen Blackmon said .46 is the highest known blood-alcohol level ever registered in the county.

A Chelan County Sheriff's Office report says deputies stopped the 46-year-old man at 9:15 p.m. on May 7 after witnessing the SUV he was driving drifting between lanes.

Deputies reported the man could not remove his seat belt, was unable to stand and was going in and out of consciousness. Sitting on the truck's middle console were two partially consumed pint bottles of 100-proof vodka, according to reports.

The .46 blood-alcohol level is among the highest ever in the state. A former Seattle police detective currently awaiting sentencing in King County recorded a breath-test reading of .47 after being stopped in Redmond in April last year.
