Golf tourney for victims of crime

The Nile Golf and Country Club's fifth annual Families and Friends Charity Golf Tournament is Friday. Check-in time is 7 a.m. with an 8 a.m. tee off and a barbecue at 12:30 p.m. at The Nile Golf and Country Club, 6601 244th St., SW, Mountlake Terrace.

Proceeds benefit the new teen program of the Families and Friends of Violent Crime Victims in Snohomish County.

Golf fees are $95 per single golfer, $190 for two, $285 for three and $380 for four. Those who do not wish to golf are invited to the awards and barbecue. The cost is $25.

Mill Creek seniors offered discounts

The Mill Creek Senior Program is offering a merchant discount card that entitles senior members to discounts with various Mill Creek businesses.

Get help contacting earthquake victims

The Red Cross Society of China is offering help for families trying to contact relatives in areas affected by China's recent earthquake.

For inquiries about relatives living in China who are Chinese citizens, the Red Cross encourages family members to keep calling or try contacting other family members who live nearby.

In Sichuan, the Red Cross Society of China, in cooperation with China Netcom, has opened a hotline for donations and tracing missing family members at +86 116114. You can also go to http://xunqin.169ol.com to post information about missing family members.

Inquiries concerning U.S. citizens living or traveling in China should be directed to the U.S. Department of State, Office of Overseas Citizens Services at 1-888-407-4747 or 202-647-5225.

Jam sessions for kids on Fridays

Arlington's Village Music and Art's summer jam sessions for kids is 1 to 3 p.m. Fridays at 338 N. Macleod Ave., Arlington. The sessions feature live music led by Jon Dalgarn of "Out of the Ashes."

Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

EvCC hosts blood drive on campus

The Everett Community College Student Activities Health and Wellness Program and the Puget Sound Blood Center hold a blood drive from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 3 p.m. July 16 at Everett Community College's Jackson Center, 2000 Tower St., Everett.

Parking on campus is by permit only. Visitors permits are available in the Security Office and Parks Student Union and may be picked up the day of the event.

Driving classes offered for seniors

The Snohomish Senior Center is sponsoring AARP's two-day driver safety class from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 21-22 at the Snohomish Fire and Rescue Station education annex, 8010 180th St., SE, Snohomish.

The program is designed to teach defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and rules of the road, as well as ways to adjust driving to compensate for age related changes. Graduates receive a certificate entitling them to a reduction in their auto insurance premiums. The cost is $10 for the two-day class; all materials are supplied. RSVP's are required.
