E3 Roundup Day 1

Xbox 360 Owners Feel the Love

Posted at 10:39 am

Day 1 of E3 belonged to Microsoft.

With a lineup of games that should make Xbox 360 owners stand up on their desk and sing Handel’s Hallelujah chorus, a host of new downloadable content on the way and a new console user’s interface complete with avatars, it is evident that developers and gamers alike consider the 360 the workhorse platform of the 00’s.

But the big news for Xbox 360 owners? I can sum it up into two words: Final Fantasy.

That’s right Final Fantasy XIII is coming to the Xbox 360.

The trailer that debuted at E3 shows a lot of CG eye candy and if you watch close enough, some actual battle. Though the titles are in Japanese you can clearly see most of the main characters and the triumphant return of summonable creatures: Shiva and Ifrit are well represented. But that’s enough of me, check out the trailer. If you were as impressed as I was, you’ll be picking this up on release:

Mutants Beware: Fallout 3 is Coming

Fallout 3 was shown in all of its visceral, mutant-hating, post-apocalyptic glory. Game play puts you in either first-person or third-person , wielding a variety of ad hoc weapons. What was most interesting was the ability to target specific parts of the body on a variety of mobs: head, arms, legs and torso.

I got to tell you though… not a whole lot of polish graphically, as Bethesda is using the same engine they employed for Oblivion. Some in-game play looks better than others, but I hope that on release the game will look cleaner. You be the judge – here’s the trailer straight from E3. Very, very funny intro but beware: this game is “M” for mature and so is the trailer.

Trade Rumors...

Rumors are also flying about a new Bungie game, possibly set within the Halo franchise but without Master Chief? No, it's not Halo Wars either.
I’ll keep you posted as the news comes in.
