Save a Buck: Brown-bag it 7/16/08
Farm Aid to play in New England on Sept. 20 7/16/08

Can we get a little aid, too?

Posted at 12:01 am by Jon Bauer, Herald staff

Hurts so good: John "Don't Call Me 'Cougar'" Mellencamp is bringing back Farm Aid, the benefit concert he and Willie Nelson started in 1985 to help farm families struggling to pay their mortgages.

All well and good. But we're waiting for some rock stars to organize a benefit concert to aid families struggling to buy their corn flakes.

Watch out, Spenser! He's got a garlic press: Herald food columnist Jan Roberts-Dominguez writes today about "Spenser: For Hire," the late-'80s TV series that starred Robert Urich as a hard-nosed detective with a gourmet bent.

Call us old-fashioned, but we prefer that our grizzled private eyes drink their lunches from bottles, not use the contents of the bottle to marinate a pork loin.

Trade you sammiches: Workers looking to cut back have stopped eating out at lunch and are packing PB&J sandwiches instead.

If it's been a while since you've packed a lunch, remember what Little Buzz learned in third grade: Clean out your Snoopy and Charlie Brown lunch box each day unless you're trying to make cottage cheese in your Thermos.
