Sexson, Yanks won't mix

Posted at 7:23 pm by John Sleeper

So Richie Sexson latched on to the Yankees.

It's a no-lose deal for New York. They pay the major league minimum and give Sexson a new shot. The question is whether he can handle it.

From Day 1 with the Mariners, Sexson showed how overly sensitive he was to the Seattle media, one of the most mild, unconfrontational group of its kind in the country.

How's Richie going to react to the media buzzsaw in New York? To me, this is the worst possible place for Sexson to land. That's especially true knowing that the Yankees are in the middle of a pennant race. He has little room for failure.

Sexson will simply have to show something early or management, media and fans will be all over him so bad that whatever he went through in Seattle will feel like a deep-tissue massage.

Unreal.
