Scientists think vocal communication may have started with ancient fish, and they point to the toadfish as proof. The male toadfish makes a kind of humming sound to attract a mate, and grunts to ward off threats to its nest.

Further study has shown the male toadfish also makes a plaintive call to its mate when it can't find its socks.

Spam, egg, Spam, bacon and Spam: Frank's Place, an Oak Harbor eatery, offers among its breakfast meat choices the canned pork product known as Spam, which Monty Python immortalized in a skit.

We doubt owner Frank Pulu has hired a Viking chorus to sing, "Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam," but diners should feel free to hum the ditty under their breath. For those who don't like Spam: Order the egg, bacon, Spam and sausage; it has less Spam than the Spam, egg, sausage and Spam.

Frankly, we're not impressed. The Buzz and his younger brother invented essentially the same sport, except the punches alternated with rounds of Monopoly.
