The cruise brochure sent before the cruise, the Cruise Compass (Royal Caribbean's daily schedule), and information posted at the deck where you disembark to go ashore -- all emphasize that passengers must be back on board 30 minutes prior to the ship leaving for the next port. RCCL did leave their medication and a few other items at the San Diego port -- which was probably a result of their frantic calls to the cruise line. Good for Royal Caribbean's customer service! If any cruise line set their watches by cruisers who meander or get lost or decide to have one more drink on shore, the rest of us would not enjoy the various ports on time! Bottom line -- set your watches to the ship's time and don't take anyone's word for how long it will take to drive 40 minutes in one direction and two hours to drive back (which doesn't make much sense no matter how many times I read it). I hope Royal Caribbean doesn't buckle to any publicity over this incident. While it is unfortunate these women missed out on a cruise, they should have been very aware of when to be back on board.
