Ferries getting no bids so far

Posted at 1:04 pm by Jerry Cornfield

No one has yet to make an offer for any of the four Steel Electric-class vessels put up for sale on eBay by Washington State Ferries.

Bidding opened July 16 for the Klickitat, the Illahee, the Nisqually and the Quinault. It will end Saturday night. The minimum bid for each one is $350,000 and buyers are responsible for pick-up or delivery..
Roughly two dozen individuals and companies expressed interest in the boats before they went on sale. Many of the interested parties were salvage firms looking to scrap the 81-year-old boats and sell the parts and steel for cash.

Marta Coursey, state ferries communications director, isn’t sweating the lack of bidders.

“It is our generalized understanding of the audience that people will not put a bid in yet because they will wait until the 11th hour,” she said.

And taking a quick look, Seattle isn't doing much better unloading its fancy toilets. So far no has yet bid on the $89,000 commodes.
