Author J.R. Nakken visits Marysville

Judith Nakken, a Tulalip resident who writes as J.R. Nakken and recently published her second book, "Stream and Light -- A Woman's Journey," will sign books in Marysville.

Her first published book, "Three-Point Shot," for young adults, won a Writer's Digest award.

BookWORKS plans to honor J.R. Nakken at a reception at 5 p.m. July 30 at 1510 Third St., Marysville.

Snohomish history club in the works

Snohomish historian and writer Warner Blake hopes to establish a club where members learn or share the early history of Snohomish.

Warner plans to talk about the project at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday at Blackman House Museum, 118 Ave. B, Snohomish.

The model for this program is a book club. Club members will learn facts about early Snohomish families while exploring their own interests about life in 1890 Snohomish. Topics could include cooking and domestic life, the logging industry and politics.
