Sports Briefs

Shorecrest girls soccer wins title

The Shorecrest girls soccer team won five consecutive games and took the title at an eight-team summer high school tournament at Blaine High School July 11-13.

The Scots defeated Ferndale 4-0 in the final and outscored their opponents 18-3 in the five games.

Goalkeeper Caroline Towles notched the shutout in the final.

Sophomore-to-be Rachel Schrote and senior-to-be Ashley Rojan were instrumental in moving the ball from their center midfield spots, coach Mindy Dalziel said.

The forwards, junior-to-be Ashley Desharnais, junior-to-be Alexis Ramos and junior-to-be Agen Heffernan scored most of the goals.

"The whole point of it was to get lots of playing time and put kids in situations and see if they could perform in the summer for me," Dalziel said.

Golf tournament

The first annual celebrity/amateur 36-hole invitational golf tournament, Broadway-style dinner show gala and live auction will be Aug. 21-22 at the Nile Golf Course and adjoining banquet hall. The tournament is being sponsored by Non-Profit Resources partnering with International Children's Foundation. Information: vdkr@mindspring.com or 425-802-4274.

Correction

The Richmond Little League Majors All-Stars last won the District 8 tournament and qualified for state in 2004. The year the league last won the district title was incorrect in the July 18 issue.
