If you have a stream or wetland on your property, it is important to keep yards healthy to protect water quality, encourage wildlife and bird use and to protect the environment for you and your downstream neighbors. Snohomish Conservation District has a grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology to work on water quality in urban streams. District staff can work with residents on issues involving eroded stream banks, sustainable yard and garden practices, managing pet waste and "naturescaping" a stream or pond. The Conservation District is looking for homeowners who live on or near streams and who would like a free visit to explore native plant use, erosion control, keeping domestic animals out of streams and more. Motorcycle ride aids Special Olympics The Marysville Police Department and the Bellingham Police Association are teaming up to sponsor a motorcycle Ride and Drive event Saturday to benefit Special Olympics Washington. The ride begins at the Harley-Davidson store, 16212 Smokey Point Blvd., no later than 9:30 a.m. and ends at Birch Bay Park, north of Bellingham. The cost is $40 per driver-rider and $5 per passenger. Learn about PUD growth plans PUD customers can learn how the utility is planning to meet growth through conservation and green renewable energy resources at two meetings. The PUD is reviewing its draft Integrated Resource Plan, which provides a long-term strategy for energy resources. Listen and speak at one of the meetings at 6:30 tonight and at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Snohomish County PUD, 2320 California St., Everett. Everett firefighters offer hall for rent The Everett Firefighters Association frequently donates the use of its Firefighters Hall to nonprofit organizations. The hall, 2411 Hewitt Ave., also is available to the public for a rental fee. Equipped with a kitchen, the hall can accommodate groups of up to 100 people.
