Washington Manufacturing
Services presents
“Surviving the I.C.E. Age”
Aug. 12 & 13
The landscape for employers is changing quickly as employment regulatory compliance becomes more demanding.
Growth of the immigrant workforce has challenged many companies in verifying the authenticity of legal documents including passports, visas, social security cards, drivers licenses, and work permits. A single failure in verifying documents can mean thousands of dollars in federal fines.
In June, a well-known Washington aerospace manufacturer in Arlington was raided by an immigration customs enforcement team. By the end of the day, 32 employees were taken into custody and are being held in immigration detention awaiting possible deportation.
Washington Manufacturing Services of Everett is presenting two area workshops on immigration customs enforcement and protecting the security of your workplace.
The fiirst session will be held on Aug. 12 in Burlington, followed by an Aug. 13 program in Lynnwood. An executive overview will be presented from 8 a.m. to noon, followed by a practitioner workshop from 1-5 p.m. at each location,
The executive session will inform top-level management about what needs to be done for their business or organization, including understanding the need to conduct an internal audit, risk management and risk mitigation, trends in I.C.E. enforcement and why this will continue to be an important issue and the costs to an employer for non-compliance.
The workshop session provides an overview on the morning topics focused specifically on practitioners who will be handling employee records, including a thorough explanation of I-9 completion and risk areas, what I.C.E. looks for in an audit, what triggers an I.C.E. audit and how to avoid one and the Social Security E-Verify process.
Participants in both sessions will receive workbooks, background information and checklists.
The sessions will be presented by attorney Brenda S. Smith who for 15 years has been a human resources executive, consultant and employment law facilitator for corporate, education and government agencies.
The fee for each session is $75 per person, with two sessions in each location. To register for either seminar, call 425-438-1146 x107 or visit www.wamfg.org.
